A huge gas reservoir with more than 100 billion cubic meters of potential reserves has been discovered in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, according to the local branch of PetroChina.

Hoo Jin, director general of the Xinjiang Petrocheina branch, said on Friday that a preliminary probe showed that the reservoir, with an area of 156 million square meters on the southern edge of the Younger Basin, contained 109 billion cubic meters of gas.

According to Hoo, it is expected to produce 610,000 cubic meters of natural gas and 106.3 cubic meters of crude oil per day. This discovery is a great step forward in gas exploration on the southern margin of the Younger Basin, which further guarantees our company’s gas supply and contributes to the stability and prosperity of this region.
