Doha and Washington agree to boost military co-operation during US Army Chief of Staff visit

The Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces met with his American counterpart to discuss ways to strengthen military relations between the two countries.

The meeting, which took place in Doha, was part of a visit by James McConnell, Joint Chiefs of Staff, according to ISNA.

During the meeting, military issues of interest to the two countries and ways to strengthen relations were discussed.

The meeting was also attended by Ghanem bin Shahin Al-Ghanem, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Qatari Armed Forces, and a number of senior commanders of the Qatari Armed Forces.

Qatar and the United States signed a military agreement on naval activities in early December.

There are about 13,000 US troops in Qatar, most of them from the air force, stationed at Al-Adeed base, 30 km southwest of Doha.
